Lombok: Savanna, Waterfalls & Sasak Villages

Arrive at Lombok International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Mataram, the capital city. In the afternoon, embark on a City Tour of Mataram. Visit the Mayura Palace and Water Castle, a 19th-century royal complex built by the Balinese Karangasem kingdom, featuring a large artificial lake with a floating pavilion. Next, visit the Lingsar Temple, a unique temple complex shared by Hindus and Muslims, where you can witness the communal Perang Topat (rice cake war) ceremony if you visit during the right season. End your day with a stroll through the local market, sampling Lombok's famous spicy peanuts. Overnight in Mataram.

After breakfast, board a traditional wooden perahu boat for a 3-hour snorkeling safari around the three Gilis. First stop: Turtle Point near Gili Trawangan, where you will swim alongside endangered green and hawksbill sea turtles in their natural habitat. Next, head to Gili Meno, the quietest of the islands, to explore the famous Underwater Statue Installation—a hauntingly beautiful circle of stone figures submerged in shallow water. Continue to Gili Air for snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs teeming with parrotfish, clownfish, and angelfish. Enjoy a fresh seafood lunch on the boat. Return to Gili Trawangan in the afternoon. Rent a bicycle and cycle around the island's 8-kilometer circumference, stopping at hidden beaches and coconut groves. Overnight in Gili Trawangan.

Drive north to the highland village of Sembalun (approx. 2.5 hours), the starting point for the Rinjani trek. But instead of climbing the volcano, you will explore the surrounding golden savannas that stretch beneath Rinjani's massive pyramid. We will provide bicycles for a 2-hour gentle ride through the rolling hills, passing traditional farms and grazing horses. The views of Rinjani towering above you are simply breathtaking. Stop for a picnic lunch overlooking the savanna before returning to Sembalun for an overnight stay in a cozy mountain guesthouse.

Today you venture to the Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfalls (approx. 1.5 hours), a twin waterfall complex with natural swimming pools surrounded by lush jungle. The hike to the falls is gentle (15 minutes downhill), and you will have plenty of time to swim and explore the multi-tiered cascades. The water is cool, clear, and incredibly refreshing. After lunch, transfer to Senggigi on Lombok's west coast (approx. 2 hours). Check into a beachfront hotel and enjoy your final sunset over the Bali Strait.
