Wilderness & Lake Toba

Arrive at Kualanamu International Airport (Medan) and be greeted by our team. From here, you will drive approximately 3-4 hours north to Bukit Lawan, a small jungle village nestled on the banks of the Lepan River. Upon arrival, check into your jungle eco-lodge. In the late afternoon, take a short introductory walk through the village and across the iconic canopy bridge. After dinner, your guide will brief you on the next day's jungle trekking protocols—essential for safely spotting orangutans in the wild.

After an early breakfast, board a small motorized canoe to cross the river and enter the Gunung Leuser National Park. Trekking through the dense, humid rainforest, your experienced guide will listen for rustling branches and identify orangutan nests high in the trees. This is one of the few places in the world where you can observe orangutans feeding, swinging, and building nests just meters away. Along the way, you will also encounter Thomas leaf monkeys, gibbons, and the giant rafflesia flower (if in season). Enjoy a packed lunch in the jungle before returning to the lodge in the afternoon for rest and a refreshing river swim.

Bid farewell to the jungle and drive south towards the mountain town of Berastagi (approx. 3 hours). After lunch, you will start a moderate 2-hour afternoon hike up the active Mount Sibayak. Unlike the steep volcanoes of Java, Sibayak offers a relatively gentle climb through pine and edelweiss forests before reaching the steaming, sulfurous crater. Walk around the crater rim and witness the bubbling mud pools and bright yellow sulfur deposits, all with a spectacular backdrop of the towering Mount Sinabung. Descend just before sunset and check into a cozy highland hotel for a well-deserved warm dinner.

Today you drive east through the scenic highlands towards the Sidamanik Tea Plantation (approx. 2 hours). This is one of the largest tea estates in Indonesia, where endless green hills roll as far as the eye can see. You will take a guided walking tour through the plantation, meeting local tea pickers, and ending with a fresh cup of locally grown black tea. After lunch, continue to the magnificent Sipiso-piso Waterfall. You will hike down the staircase to the base of the waterfall, feeling the cool spray and capturing epic photos of the lake framed by the cascading water. Continue to Parapat, the gateway town on the eastern shore of Lake Toba. Check into a lakeside hotel and enjoy the sunset over the caldera.

After breakfast, board a traditional wooden ferry for a 45-minute boat ride across the world's largest volcanic lake to Tomok Village on Samosir Island, the heart of Batak culture. Today you will explore the island by bicycle. Pedal along the quiet, paved roads hugging the shoreline, with the turquoise lake on one side and lush green hills on the other. Visit Ambarita, where you will explore the Huta Siallagan Stone Court—a centuries-old village square where Batak chiefs once passed judgments. Continue cycling to Simanindo, home to a traditional Batak village with well-preserved houses and a museum showcasing ancient artifacts. Return to Tomok in the afternoon, take the ferry back to Parapat, and transfer to your hotel for the night

Enjoy a final Sumatran breakfast with a view of the lake. At the designated time, our team will drive you back to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan (approx. 5 hours) for your flight home, carrying the unforgettable memories of Sumatra's wild heart.
